Darlene & Connie
Katrina, Darlene, Kendal, Kim, and Andrew
Kim grew up in Vancouver where she attended Simon Fraser University and received a Bachelor of Arts. She met her husband on vacation and moved to Alberta in 1996 with every intention of going into teaching.
While living in Canmore, she started her career in optical and graduated from the NAIT optical program, receiving National Accreditation as a Licensed Optician in 2001. Kim has been with Cochrane Family Vision since opening in 2014. Throughout her career, Kim has worked with a variety of people. She sees herself as a member of an eye care team, along with the optometrist and patient, working together to fulfill the unique visual and health needs of each patient.
Kim and her husband moved to Cochrane in 2002 to start and raise their family. She has two beautiful teenage boys. When not at work, you can find Kim at bootcamp, walking her dogs, on the ski hill, or on the rugby pitch with her boys.
Katrina is a born and raised Calgarian. She moved to Cochrane in 2010, changed careers from wedding and event planning to Optometric Assistant, and hasn’t looked back since.
Katrina has been working in the optical industry since 2010 and is a Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant. Katrina has been with Cochrane Family Vision since opening the doors in 2014. She loves providing great customer service and finding the perfect frame for her patients.
She can frequently be found at the pool or playground with her 2 boys. Katrina loves to spend time outdoors with her family and her dog Roxie. Katrina is an avid crocheter and loves live music.
Melissa has lived in Cochrane with her family since 2012 and is currently a full-time student at the University of Calgary. Upon completion of her Community Rehabilitation & Disability Studies degree, she would like to pursue medical education and become a pediatrician. She has worked with us since the fall of 2020 and really enjoys working with young children.
In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her family, visit the lakes, and bake.
Connie joined our team at Cochrane Family Vision in the fall of 2020.
Originally from Manitoba she has made her home in Alberta. She has worked in the Optical Industry for several years. Along the way, she has gained valuable knowledge and experience. She is and has been a member of the Alberta Association of Optometric Assistants program for many years. She has met and kept in touch with many of her past associates, acquaintances, and co-workers.
She enjoys her position of Receptionist and always has a smile and is ready to help any way she can.
When not at work, you may find her on one of the many pathways, heading off to the mountains, or just enjoying a good book. If we are lucky, she is in the kitchen baking a treat for her co-workers.
Darlene was born in Toronto and relocated to Cochrane in 2012 from a small farming community in Saskatchewan where she and her husband raised their two boys. She also began her optical career in 2012 and is a Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant (CCOA). She has worked with Cochrane Family Vision in the past and rejoined the team in the fall of 2022. Working in Cochrane within a community of close-knit individuals and being able to build relationships through interacting is something she’s always dreamed of.
One of Dar’s highlights is styling a patient into a new frame – for her it’s all about the fashion fun and the transformation and impact it can make on an individual! She and her husband love the outdoors and often spend their days off hiking in the mountains, biking or paddle boarding. Spending time with family is key to Darlene and especially now that she is a grandma!
Originally from Nova Scotia, Andrew grew up in Calgary after moving with his parents in 1978. After graduating high school, he attended the University of New Brunswick and received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science.
Andrew started in the optical industry in 1997, getting his Optician accreditation in 2001. Over the years he’s been an equipment representative, a frame rep, a store manager, and a regional manager. Andrew enjoys helping his customers pick the perfect pair of frames and lenses.
When not working, Andrew can be found flying (he’s a pilot!) around the local area and practicing his skills while he takes his Commercial Pilot training at Springbank. Andrew is a proud Dad to two young daughters and loves sharing Dad Jokes with his coworkers.
Kendal joined our clinic in February 2023. She graduated from Cochrane High and toured Canada from coast to coast for a year after graduation recording music and playing wherever she could (high schools, care homes, etc). She then relocated to Medicine Hat and was busy with her family and working in healthcare.
She has worked in the optical/eyecare industry since 2011 and is grateful to be back in this awesome little town of Cochrane after 25 years! Outside of work she enjoys photography, downhill skiing, acting in local theatre, dog sitting, and learning new music.
